Greater Toronto Area (GTA)

The Greater Toronto Area is considered the central city of Toronto. It is the most heavily populated metropolitan area of all of Canada, with a population of close to 6.5 million by 2016. Four regional municipalities surround GTA namely Halton, Peel, York, and Durham. The Greater Toronto Area forms the northern part of the Golden Horseshoe. It spans 4.350 sq. mi. along Lake Ontario.

The Greater Toronto Area is also considered the cultural center of Canada where the theater scene is the world’s third largest and where retail brands from all over the world make up its shopping industry. It is also home to world-renowned restaurants and popular sports franchises such as the NBA’s Toronto Raptors, NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs and MLB’s Toronto Blue Jays. In spite of the hustle and bustle of the GTA, there are smaller areas that provide old town charm but at the same time has urban amenities that perfectly complement their unique attractions. These areas include Etobicoke and North York.

The GTA is also home to more than 100,000 companies that provide for almost 2.9 million people currently in its workforce. The presence of most international companies, the Greater Toronto Area is Canada’s business and manufacturing capital. In terms of its economic position as compared to other major cities around the world, GTA can definitely compare. With its strong business climate, modern transportation, high-income markets and advanced telecommunications, the GTA remains to be one of the world’s strongest economies. Add diversity and racial and cultural harmony to the mix, the Greater Toronto Area makes for a good place to live in where one could experience the best quality of life.
