Greater Toronto Area (GTA)

The Greater Toronto Area is considered the central city of Toronto. It is the most heavily populated metropolitan area of all of Canada, with a population of close to 6.5 million by 2016. Four regional municipalities surround GTA namely Halton, Peel, York, and Durham. The Greater Toronto Area forms the northern part of the Golden Horseshoe. It spans 4.350 sq. mi. along Lake Ontario.

The Greater Toronto Area is also considered the cultural center of Canada where the theater scene is the world’s third largest and where retail brands from all over the world make up its shopping industry. It is also home to world-renowned restaurants and popular sports franchises such as the NBA’s Toronto Raptors, NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs and MLB’s Toronto Blue Jays.
