Durham Region
To the east of Toronto lies the Durham Region, encompassing a vast area of approximately 1,000 square miles. Characterizing the region would be various landscapes and diverse communities. In the Durham Region, one can find a complementing mix of highly urbanized communities and quiet and small towns. Its municipalities include the city of Pickering, the town of Ajax and the township of Uxbridge, forming part of Toronto’s Census Metropolitan Area. While forming part of the Oshawa’s Metropolitan Area would Oshawa, Whitby, and Clarington.
In terms of economy, the region is well known for its strong manufacturing sector and its young but highly skilled workforce. It is considered one of the major centers of Canada’s automobile industry. It is home to General Motors’ largest plant in all of North America – located in Oshawa and also the headquarters of Volkswagen. The region also drives its progress from its active residential and business development initiatives. It is the GTA’s most competitively priced business real estate region. It benefits from some of the lowest priced industrial and commercial lease rates and land costs by almost half of what is in the GTA.
